The Start Cup Emilia-Romagna is the business plan competition of regional research centers and universities, with the aim of promoting the creation of new businesses with a high innovative content.
Affiliated with the National Innovation Prize (PNI), the Start Cup Emilia-Romagna is managed and coordinated by ART-ER and funded by European funds from the Emilia-Romagna Region. Partners of the Start Cup include universities and research centers based in the region, industrial associations, incubators and accelerators in Emilia-Romagna.
EcosistER | Territorial Innovation Ecosystem of Emilia-Romagna is the project funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) that brings together key actors at the regional level to strengthen Emilia-Romagna's global leadership in applied research and ensure an effective capacity to support sustainable, resilient, and people-centered industrial development, through the implementation of green transitions, in line with the goals of the Pact for Work and Climate. The partnership includes all universities and research entities based in the region and integrates the expertise of the High Technology Network, the services of the Incubator network, and the relationships with the territories of the Technopole network.

The 2023 edition of Start Cup Emilia-Romagna, the competition among innovative entrepreneurial projects originating from the world of research or developed by university students and PhD candidates, is completely revamped thanks to its integration with ECOSISTER, the project funded by the PNRR to guide the ecological and sustainable transition of Emilia-Romagna.
The program aims to prepare students, PhD candidates, researchers, and professors to leverage the results of their research or capitalize on their studies by creating a spin-off or startup and verifying the feasibility of their entrepreneurial project.
The top 30 projects, selected through scouting activities in collaboration with partners, participated in a boot camp to work on the business model. The projects then took part in a pitching session for the finalists' section of the competition. For them, an intensive training and coaching program for the drafting of the business plan and access to the regional final.
During the final, the finalist projects will present themselves to a technical jury that will assess the skills and solidity of the business model. The stakes include not only contributions provided by the initiative's supporters (Iren Spa, Unitec Spa, Intesa Sanpaolo, Emilbanca, Order of Engineers of Bologna, Parma, and Reggio-Emilia) but also access to the PNI. National Innovation Prize, scheduled in Milan on November 31 and December 1st.
The pitching session of the finalist projects competing for regional victory and access to the National Innovation Prize. The event, hosted by Riccardo Luna, will involve the participation of experts, investors, and institutions.
